Celebrating 75 Years of W P Lewis – A Proud Pembrokeshire Tradition
75 years of motoring, family heritage and outstanding customer service.
W P Lewis is proud to celebrate its 75th anniversary, marking an incredible journey that began on 5th November 1950, when Mr W P Lewis opened the doors to a small garage with just two petrol pumps and a modest workshop.
In those early days, the business catered for all types of vehicles, with engine reboring becoming a particular speciality in the local area. As the business grew, W P Lewis’s son, Stuart, joined in the late 1950s, training as a technician and helping to shape the company’s future.
The next chapter saw the business expand into car sales, with Stuart also introducing Contract Hire to Pembrokeshire. In the early 1970s, an approach from Avon Garage in Maesteg opened the door to selling new Opel cars. This relationship flourished, and in 1978, W P Lewis became the official Opel dealer for Pembrokeshire.
Continued growth brought a larger workshop, a brand-new showroom and a team of more than 20 employees. Following the merger of Opel and Vauxhall in 1981, and Opel’s departure from the UK market in 1987, the business continued its journey with Vauxhall cars and vans.
Sadly, founder W P Lewis passed away in 1999, and the business became a limited company. Stuart continued his father’s legacy until his passing in 2012. Today, that family tradition lives on, with grandson Steve as Managing Director and Stuart’s son, Martyn, also serving as a Director. The team now numbers 17, continuing to deliver the personal service and expertise that have been at the heart of W P Lewis for three-quarters of a century.
